Christmas cards are being sent around the nation featuring the artwork of local David Kao.
Kao is a resident at Life Care Center of Altamonte Springs and recently took first place in Life Care Centers of America’s annual Christmas card designing contest. The company invites residents in more than 200 nursing and rehab facilities to submit card designs, and one piece is chosen for each of the organization’s geographical divisions. A total of eight designs are printed and distributed to facilities and regional offices throughout Life Care.
Kao’s colored pencil drawing of poinsettias is this year’s winner for Life Care’s centers in Florida.
“I chose the poinsettia for my Christmas card because it represents Christmas and the spirit of the holidays,” said Kao. “I like art because it gives me peace when I draw while listening to opera music.”
Kao started drawing at the age of 12 and later pursued a career in oil painting. The world of painting as competitive, so he turned his love of art into jewelry design and saw great success. His passion is still sketching and painting, which he does on a daily basis.
